Is Adele Balasingham a war criminal?

Many wonder why there is no action by the International Community to try Ms. Adele Ann Wilby also known as Adele Ann Balasingham, Adele Anne or Ms "Stanislaus" for war crimes. "Stanislau" is the first name of her husband Anton Balasingham a former employee of a foreign western Embassy based in Colombo.

An Australian by birth hailing from the suburb of Warragul, in the Australian city of East Melbourne, she liked to be known as "Aunty" to the hundreds of unsuspecting females especially young girls in the Jaffna peninsula . Adel Ann in the first edition of her book titled "Women Fighters of Liberation Tigers ", cover designed by "Daya" and printed by Thasan Printers, Mahendra Veethy, Jaffna dated 1st January 1993, she dedicates "to the women fighters of "Liberation Tigers" .

She has been reported as being the pioneer of recruiting young Tamil women including children as women fighters for the Tamil Tiger terrorist outfit known as the " Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam". According to the media, she is a trained nurse by profession and now lives in a fashionable quarter in London in a house estimated to be worth œ500,000. According to recent media reports she was under "surveillance" for coordinating the "demonstrations" held by pro "Tiger", London , UK in support of the Tamil Tigers" during its last days prior to being eliminated by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

She claims "for the creation of a new society where women can live with equality, honor and dignity". She claim for herself the role of recruiting "child soldiers" including girls. Still worse was that she advocated suicide for the female cadres which is not only deemed immoral and illegal but also rejected by all religions and humanitarian law advocated by Human Rights activists worldwide. The pioneer and self proclaimed leader of the "Women's Wing" of the "Tigers", she was usually seen inspecting her female cadres wearing brand new jungle "fatigues" and prided herself in garlanding new recruits including "female" children with the deadly cyanide capsule. She was he pioneer in brainwashing females including children and female suicide "bombers" of the Tamil community.

A young girl child in society is considered the lynchpin who binds the fabric of society. This is mostly so in Asian society . For a female, considered the fountain of life, to lure another female child - also not her own- in a society predominantly and culturally Hindu displaying "death" by suicide by biting a cyanide capsule is a crime against humanity Suicide is not acceptable to any religion except perhaps to "extremist" fanatical groups as the Tamil Tigers terrorists. The first batch of female "Tamil Tigers passed out at the end of 1990. The real reason for enticing females including children was the dwindling LTTE human resources. The cyanide capsule around the neck of Tamil Tigers was propagated by the Tamil Tigers to avoid capture when in fact it was only for the rank and file but not for the hierarchy . When driven to the wall almost all lost their nerve and bravado and the cyanide capsule was never used by LTTE leaders Tamil Tigers leaders were reduced to plead for "outside" support in the hope of extricating themselves leaving their cadres isolated and destined to meet their fate.

According to many Tiger cadres who threw away their cyanide capsule and their weapons and escaped to freedom to live. Thousands of Tamil civilians risked their lives to escape from the Tigers who used small arms as well as heavy weapons to stop them. The pioneer of the Female Tiger cadres, Ms Adel Ann Balasingham wore military fatigues to impress her cadres but realizing the "end game" for the "Tigers" was being played out on the Northwestern coast of Sri Lanka settled down in London much earlier deserting the female cadres whom she indoctrinated and proudly claimed to have trained.

About This Blog

Velupillai Prabhakaran

The rest of the world might never understand the violence Velupillai Prabhakaran stood for, but its imprint on Sri Lanka is wide and deep. For 26 years, the elusive leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had waged war with the government to win an independent homeland, or eelam, for the island's Tamil minority. The struggle claimed more than 70,000 lives--including, on May 18, Prabhakaran's. The government says he was killed, along with 17 of his trusted lieutenants, while fleeing an army ambush.

Prabhakaran, 54, was born to a middle-class family on the Jaffna Peninsula. Incensed by discrimination against Tamils and radicalized by a militant grade-school teacher, Prabhakaran founded the LTTE in 1976, a year after a group he headed claimed responsibility for killing Jaffna's mayor. By 1983 the guerrilla movement--which pioneered suicide bombings and the recruitment of child soldiers--escalated the fighting into a civil war.

At the height of his power earlier this decade, Prabhakaran led a de facto government that controlled vast swaths of territory and boasted its own systems of taxes, roads and courts. As the army closed in, he allegedly used thousands of Tamil civilians as human shields. By the final days, just 250 LTTE members remained. They died too, along with the dream of eelam.
