Prabhakaran self-centredness caused LTTE’s defeat
LTTE Supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran’s “self-centred leadership” was his “most foolish mistake”, which may have been instrumental in the defeat of the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka’s ethnic conflict, an article said on Friday.
“Prabhakaran’s monumental and self-centred leadership style did not permit the freedom of speech within the outfit which was thought to be his most foolish mistake in his decision-making process,” it said.
Besides underestimating the impact of desertion of his Batticaloa commander Karuna Amman, now a federal minister, in 2004, Prabhakaran undervalued President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s resolve to wipe out the LTTE completely, the article in the the state-run Daily News
said.
It was said that Prabhakaran was not happy with the elite Tamils who lived in the South for not supporting his struggle for a separate homeland.
“Prabhakaran was not apparently happy with the elite Tamils, who lived in the South, for not supporting his struggle in the North,” the daily said, adding the slain LTTE supremo called them ‘Weekend’ Tamils as they visited their folk in Jaffna only during weekends.
