Protest at Lord’s
Tamil protesters stormed the Lord’s calling for the Sri Lankan cricket team to return home and for other international teams to keep away from them.
The protesters were holding picket boards that said “Sri Lankas latest score: 20,000 dead, 300,000 displaced".
The Sri Lanka team had to cancel a match at Oxford due to security concerns.
Thusiyan Naneakumar, a spokesman for the group of protesters, told the Guardian news paper that the government is not letting in any major aid agencies or any major media into the IDP camps and questioned ‘. How can the team come and play cricket representing a country that does this to its own people’
Protesters said that it was hypocrisy to refuse playing with Zimbabwe because of their human rights and still play with Sri Lanka.
